IR measurements of heat transfer coefficients and nucleation parameters during saturated nucleate boiling of water–glycerin mixtures

Heat transfer coefficients and nucleation parameters were experimentally measured during saturated nucleate boiling of water–glycerin mixtures on a thin smooth titanium foil. Infrared thermometry was employed to study at atmospheric pressure in water mass fraction range from 100 % down 60 heat flux 0 200 kW m−2. found deteriorate with an increase concentration glycerin the mixture. The deterioration more pronounced for lower higher fluxes. Bubble departure diameters observed be weakly dependent independent composition Nucleation frequencies inversely proportional Thermal energy transferred individual bubbles both mixture composition. Values trends evaluated suggest that investigated conditions, into liquid phase is important relative transport latent by nucleating bubbles.
